Getting there – I hope

The shingles are improving rapidly and I haven’t needed pain medication all week. In addition , I worked for 3 days with no I’ll effects.

On Wednesday, the sunny afternoon when work was over tempted me out cycling. The days are starting to lengthen but the sun was low in the sky and visibility was not good. Almost blinding in fact.

On Thursday, I had two relatively short rides. One into town on my e- bike and the other on my Dahon in preparation forgoing to Portugal in a couple of weeks.

We were watching the weather forecast and it seemed that the best of the weather would be north of us with a SW wind so we decided to do the Hartlepool loop. So we headed along the cycle track of the A19 and then up through Norton village following NCN14 for part of the way. This lead us up a very muddy Castle Eden walkway and up to Hurworth Burn reservoir.

We stopped here and chatted to one of the old guys who are often there watching the birds. Then we continued on and switched over to the Hart to Haswell track. This was just as muddy so the bikes were filthy as we got down to Hartlepool.

The sun was still shining. In fact, it was better than the forecast but nevertheless, it was still chilly.

In this photo, you can see over to Huntcliffe near Saltburn and what remains of the old steelworks near Redcar. The skyline will change soon as the steelworks are demolished.

We rode along to Seaton Carew and sat in the 1930’s bus shelter. I got out the stove and made the cheese toasties while DH used the flask to make hot chocolate.

Then it was up to ride the cycle track to Greatham and across the field track to go home through Cowpen Bewley. A good 40 miles

When we got home DS2 wasn’t feeling too well and asked me to test him for Covid. Drat!! He tested positive so is isolating in his room and extra hygiene precautions have been put in place. Here’s hoping , the rest of us stay well. He does say he is feeling much better this evening.

So with what meagre miles for the year so far , I have now competed 99 miles. I won’t be working as so many of my patients are clinically vulnerable so may get some more miles in this week. I will be doing daily LFT tests before going out

  1. Bad luck to get the virus in the family just when you are recovering from the shingles.
