Four countries tour – day 9

What a start to the day. Lovely warm sunshine and a flattish route. The coastal route is stunningly beautiful with views across to Scotland, the Kintyre penninsula and Goat Fell  on Arran. The road is relatively flat and even though we stopped to admire the view a few times, we still dlorries24 miles to Larne in about 2.5 hours.
That’s when things started to unravel. DH found that his headset had loosened off again. There is a cycleshop but it was closed and we tried various other avenues but each one drew a blank.
I have to say that the ladies in tourist information were superb. They tried a couple of shops further afield and eventually located what we needed at Chain Reaction Cycles .I have bought from this company previously without realising that they are an Irish company. Getting there wasn’t so easy though. The A8 has extensive roadworks and we had no option but to use it to ride up to Ballyclare. Let me tell you , it was scarey and uphill all the way. We were overtaken by cars, numerous Dutch caravans and huge lorries and there was dust everywhere.
Once in Doagh, we found the huge warehouse and shop and the staff were brilliant finding the necessary headset spanners. Another man who was delivering new lights for the warehouse, phoned a caravan site in Antrim for us as/we a were now off our originally intended route by over 20 miles.
The day had been warm and sunny but cloud bubbled up quickly and it began to rain  when we got to Parkgate.  We dived into the nearest bus shelter and made sandwiches to eat while the rain passed. We got onto the B95 down into Antrim and soon found the campsite.
We pitched the tent and put the tarp over and I’m glad we did as there have been thunderstorms this evening and its still raining. DH is asleep and gently snoring.
50 miles today.
